چکیده

Indian flying barb (Esomus danricus) was exposed to sublethal concentrations of 636.3, 63.6 and 6.3 μgl-1 Cadmium for 28 days and intestinal histopathology was observed by light microscopy after staining with Haematoxylin-Eosine. Exposed fishes showed severe to mild superficial erosion of mucosa, dense lamina propria, chronic inflammatory cell infiltration as well as vacuolation. With the increase in exposure dose, severity of effects was observed.

Accumulation of Copper in Different Tissues and Changes in Oxygen Consumption Rate in Indian Flying Barb, Esomus danricus (Hamilton-Buchanan) Exposed to Sub-lethal Concentrations of Copper

In the present work, the accumulation pattern of sub-lethal doses (0.005, 0.0025 and 0.001 μgl) of copper (Cu) in different tissues of Indian flying barb, Esomus danricus and its influence on the rate of oxygen consumption of this fish at the end of 28 days of exposure were studied. It was found that the pattern of accumulation changed with concentration. Cu concentration increased in all the t...

Role of morphometry in determining the feeding success of small freshwater fish species: Multivariate analysis of Amblypharyngodon mola, Puntius ticto, and Esomus danricus

Factor and multiple regression analysis were used to extract the morphometric variables that contributed to feeding success in three small freshwater fishes. Of the first two factors, factor 1, showed high loading of gut weight (GW), length of the upper (UJ), and lower jaws (LJ) in mola, Amblypharyngodon mola (Hamilton), and GW and vertical mouth opening (VMO) in punti, Puntius ticto (Hamilton)...

The Effect of Cadmium on Apoptotic Genes mRNA Expression of Bax and Bcl-2 in Small Intestine of Rats

Background: Cadmium is a potent toxicant and carcinogenic in human and experimental animals. The evidence indicates that cadmium induces aberrant gene expression, inhibition of DNA damage repair, and apoptosis. In this study, we investigated the effects of IP (intraperitoneal) injection of cadmium on mRNA levels expression of Bcl-2 and Bax genes in rat small intestine. <s...
